“It's Time to Go Home”
, 2025

Katya Afonina’s exhibition «It’s time to go home" invites viewers to reflect on what "home" truly means in the modern world.
In her work, the artist explores the relationship between the physical space of housing and its symbolic weight—something that often proves to be far removed from reality.

In an age of information overload and a constant stream of images portraying luxurious homes and idealized lifestyles associated with success and social status, we are faced with the illusion that this life is within reach. These images become increasingly detached from everyday reality, offering the promise of elusive happiness that remains inaccessible to most.

Amid the economic and political obstacles many people face on the path to owning a home, the very notion of “home” grows ever more uncertain. What makes a space a home? Is it simply the number of nights spent in it, or the sense of happiness and comfort it provides? By creating a deconstructed space, the artist invites us to question the permanence and impermanence of our perceptions of home and the values we attach to it.

A large, luxurious table becomes a symbol of a full life—but how full is that life if one must sit at the table alone? The café space is transformed from public to private: guests are invited to share a meal together at a single table. The table is an object meant to bring people together—after all, it is at the table that relationships are built, memories are made, and connections between people are strengthened. It becomes a place for dialogue, an exchange of thoughts and emotions, inviting the audience to feel part of this shared space.

The project is supported by home textile brand Linen Texture and floral and décor studio neizbejno flowers.
